Big Data and New Technology – ISS Presenting at The 10th Annual Gibbons E-Discovery Conference

Dr. David Schwartz of Innovative Science Solutions will be presenting at the upcoming 10th Annual Gibbons E-Discovery Conference being held in West Orange (New Jersey) on November 18, 2016.

The panel session, titled Big Data and New Technology: Implications for the Ethical Practice of Law will discuss the increasing challenges big data is bringing to litigation. Dr. Schwartz will be joined on the panel by Maura R. Grossman (Research Professor, David R. Cheriton School of Computer Science at the University of Waterloo in Ontario, Canada) and Luis J. Diaz (Director, Intellectual Property Department and Member, E-Discovery Task Force, Gibbons P.C.).

Among the greatest challenges presented by big data, is developing techniques and technologies that enable companies to accurately and economically process legal requests. Many corporate legal departments are already exploring new technologies, including sophisticated data processing and technology assisted review tools. As this technology evolves, companies will likely be able to utilize fully automated artificial intelligence-based data evaluation systems that will analyze massive data stores and, from those stores, even deduce patterns of human behavior in previously unimaginable ways, and at a fraction of the current cost. However, dramatic change will bring dramatic new questions and challenges.

Dr. Schwartz and panel members will discuss the impact of these changing technologies on lawyers’ ethical obligations.
